Did you know that August is National Black Philanthropy Month (NBP)? We realized we missed this last month. NBP is a month long, global celebration and movement to celebrate and promote Black Philanthropy created by Dr. Jackie Bouvier Copeland and Pan-African Women's Philanthropy Network on August 11, 2011.

The month was created to encourage Black communities and their allies to reflect on and recognize the importance and power of giving. In addition, August 28th is National Black Giving Day. According to a 2012 Study by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Black households donate a higher percentage of their household income than other groups, despite the racial wealth gap.

To learn more about Black Philanthropy Month, visit BackBlack, a funding organization for Black nonprofit leaders, who is organizing and managing this movement. We will be adding this month to future editions of our calendar and newsletter.
