We are deeply troubled by what we are witnessing across our country. The actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the broader systems that enable harm in the name of “security” or “order,” continue to result in profound human suffering—particularly for immigrants, asylum seekers, and families who are already navigating fear, uncertainty, and loss. Behind every policy, every raid, every detention, are real people: parents, children, partners, neighbors—members of our shared human family.
We hold grief, anger, and concern together. We grieve the lives lost and the trauma inflicted. We are angered by systems that normalize dehumanization and violence. And we are deeply concerned about what it means for our collective well-being when cruelty becomes routine and accountability feels out of reach. These are not abstract issues; they are moral ones that ask us to reflect on who we are, what we value, and how we show up for one another.
At Cultures Connecting, our work has always been rooted in the belief that belonging is not optional—it is essential. Belonging requires us to see one another’s full humanity, especially in moments when fear and division are being stoked. It calls us to resist narratives that frame some lives as disposable or less deserving of dignity and care. It asks us to slow down, bear witness, and refuse to look away.
We recognize that there is no single “right” way to respond in moments like these. For some, the work is grieving and tending to the heart. For others, it is learning, speaking out, organizing, or offering tangible support to impacted communities. All of these responses matter. What we cannot do is remain silent or disconnected.
With heavy hearts and a shared commitment to justice, we stand together and invite you to stay engaged in your beloved community—however that looks for you. May we continue to choose courage over comfort, connection over isolation, and humanity over harm.
