July is Disability Pride and BIPOC Mental Health Month!

Disability Pride Month coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signed into law on July 26, 1990. Disability Pride month includes people with physical, cognitive and intellectual, nonvisible, psychiatric and sensory disabilities. Read our post about Disability Pride Month on our blog from last year.

BIPOC Mental Health Month was established in 2008 to recognize the unique challenges, including cultural and systemic barriers, POC face with mental health. Visit our blog from last year to read articles and for links to BIPOC Mental Health providers, which include the following and more!

If you're interested in reading a memoir about BIPOC mental health, Judy, our Project Manager, recommends What My Bones Know by Stephanie Foo, which follows her journey of healing from generational trauma. She also did an episode for the NPR Invisibilia podcast called "Therapy Ghostbusters" about generational trauma in the Cambodian community and how Westernized therapy practices failed and how they finally found help.
