Facing Race: A Television Series on Race

Over the past few months I have had the pleasure of working with King 5 staff providing DEI training and will continue to do so into 2021. This led to another opportunity. Joyce Taylor and one of King 5’s producers Christin Ayers, asked me to consult on a project they were exploring to create a thirteen-part series on race, one we decided to call Facing Race. I was beyond excited about this opportunity!

After several zoom conferences to brainstorm ideas, they both came to my home, along with their cameraman Mike, so Joyce and I could sit down and talk about race. The interviews occurred on a couple of different occasions, including one where journalist Mark Wright and I interviewed people at Juanita Beach in Kirkland.

Each Sunday when Facing Race comes on the TV I watch in awe as I think about the role I played. I will also admit that I sit in anticipation wondering which footage, if any, they will use from the times Joyce spent interviewing me.

Media plays an important role in what gets massaged to the greater community. There are those who are fighting against racial justice and King 5 is certainly hearing from people who would rather conversations about race don’t happen. Please take a moment to elevate the work King 5 is doing by contacting them and sharing your support of their bold work despite the resistance.
